Music

As a musician, Christy´s rustic, intimate style contains traces of folk, jazz and musical theatre – and a good dose of the unexpected. Her songwriting is quirky and thoughtful and her musical influences include Katie Melua, Suzanne Vega and Regina Spector.

Through concerts Christy loves to bring people into a shared space of calm, wonder and togetherness.  Her engagement with the audience is easy and fun. Her songs convey stories about the human experiences; emotions, relationships with people and with God, the place of the self in the world. Although reflective, Christy´s music has a light touch which which conveys peace.

Christy currently lives in Glasgow and mainly performs in Scotland and Norway. Her first solo album "Dancing Without Space" (2019) explores a young adult´s wonder and discoveries about the world. Her latest album "To the Beach" captures a journey from single to married, grappling with what it means to be a woman, missing home and learning to be content.

History

Her first song was written after an author overheard her singing with a guitar in a park in Edinburgh. The author enjoyed her voice and asked her to put some of his words to music. Since then songwriting has become Christy´s way of documenting and celebrating life.

Christy did a masters in Songwriting and Performance and UWS (The University of the West of Scotland) under the supervision of David Scott and Jo Collinson Scott. During this time she wrote “Dreams from the Breadline” - since orchestrated by the Tinderbox Orchestra in Edinburgh, “Romeo & Juliette” - in collaboration with Dementia Carer Voices and “Circles” - a collection of educational songs for children.

Over the years Christy has worked as a performer with Fischy Music, a national charity supporting the wellbeing of children across Scotland. This work has only confirmed for her the wide impact that a single song can have.

Christy Campbell was previously known as Christy Ringrose.

Painting

Christy is also a painter. She paints both portraits and landscapes, with the desire to express a beautiful person, place or moment in colour. She paints whatever inspires her, as well as personalised sketches and commissions, anything from wedding & family portraits to church displays and business logos.
